Out & About

Llangollen Railway

Llangollen Railway is a Heritage Railway Line running between Llangollen, following the River Dee through the Dee Valley for 10 miles, to Corwen.

All the stations along the track are of a typical Victorian design and each station has been recreated in 1950’s Great Western colour scheme.

Why not make a stop at one of our stations and go for a stroll then hop back on to end your day in style.

Llangollen Motor Museum

Llangollen Motor Car and Motor Cycle Museum houses a nostalgic collection of cars and bikes dating from 1912 to 1975. Plus ephemera associated with the golden days of motoring, presented with a quirky sense of humour.

Plas Newydd

Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby captured the imagination of Regency society.

They received a stream of visitors to the unpretentious little cottage which, over the years, they transformed into a Gothic fantasy of projecting stained glass and elaborately carved oak.

Inside Plas Newydd today, an exhibition including some of their possessions bring their story to vivid life. You can stroll through their gardens and along their riverside walk.

Llangollen Museum

Llangollen Museum in Parade Street is housed in an unusual mid-20th century, circular building reminiscent of a castle tower.

Run mainly by volunteer staff, it houses a wealth of information on the history of the town and its surroundings, as well as a variety of exhibitions.

Victoria Promenade & Childrens Park

Since it opened to the public in 2012, Lowther Castle & Gardens – comprising castle ruins, extensive gardens, woodland, ponds and a huge adventure playground – has established itself as one of the most popular and unusual visitor attractions in the northwest. It is set in the Lake District National Park, a Unesco World Heritage site and sits on the dramatic Knipe Scar with far-reaching views over the river Lowther and the Lowther valley below.
